As we prepare for another summer of van conversions in Whistler BC, we thought we’d share a few of our favourite things do in the local area. And yes, several of them include a van. And ever since, we’ve realised that being parked up lakeside, paddle boards ready to go, bikes in the back for an evening ride, might be our favourite way to spend a summer day. Read on for our favourite spots to hang out in Whistler for the day…

Living in Canada we spend a decent amount of time outside in the cold. And so, when building vans, we really need them to be able to stand up to any temperatures and conditions the Great White North can throw at them. After all, when you’re camping out at -30 C or colder, to get those first powder runs or catch that morning sunrise, you want to be sure you’re going to have a warm and cozy nights sleep before that. And that you’re going to feel secure driving your home along some slick winter roads. We took out a van to test how it stood up to the winter weather in Banff, Alberta.

As far as BC road trips the Coast Mountain Circle Route, is one of our fall favourites. The route itself spans a huge variety of terrain, taking you through the lush rainforests of Vancouver and Squamish, mountain passes as you drive across the Duffey Lake Road, desert and grasslands through Lillooet and Lytton, and down through farmlands as you make your way through the lower mainland.

As the leaves start to change colour and the nights get a little colder we like to escape to the Sunshine Coast for a little retreat.

Whistler is known for being the ultimate outdoor getaway, and what better way to keep the outdoor adventures going than to spend the night parked up in a forest spot.

Unfortunately, sleeping in a vehicle overnight is not permitted in Whistler’s parking lots and roads, and there can be big fines if you are caught.

So, instead of setting you up for a knock on the van in the middle of the night and a big fine, we’re going to share with you the three official campgrounds in Whistler, with a budget, a mid range and a blow the budget luxury option.

Traveling in a van across the UK we loved spending as much time as possible outdoors. As we explored Sheffield and the Peak District we opted to find as many ways as possible to enjoy the hills and forests and find as many scenic places as possible to camp in our tiny home on wheels.
