Our modular Foundation System is the heart of every Habitat van. Engineered for strength, tested in real-world conditions, and designed to make your build simple.

Choose a professional install or get your kit delivered flat-pack for an easy at-home setup. Either way, you’ll get a smooth, stress-free experience from start to finish.

All design and manufacturing happens in the mountains of British Columbia, where our team works with you to tailor your van to your needs. From initial design to final build, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

  • The kit includes our 3 layer insulation system. This insulation system provides a vapour barrier to single skin areas of the van a thermal reflective layer and a breathable insulation layer for ultimate comfort.

  • Our floor innovative floor system provides world class insulation, eliminating thermal bridging. As well as van specific wire routing, removing the need to complex time consuming wire runs, housing the wires in the floor also eliminate rubbing and wear.

  • We work with you to design your wire layout. And provide you with a guide, with all wire gauges and locations listed.

  • From hardwearing marine grade fabrics, industrial adhesives, engineering grade printed plastics and 6061 powder coated aluminium, every material in our system has been meticulously tested and specced.

    We have spent years designing and testing an industry leading product that’s ready for anything your adventures can throw at it.

  • In a van, every inch of space counts. To maximise utility, our innovative Bed Nooks, coupled with our Range Bed System, will have you sleeping sideways comfortably, no flares required.

    If you are taller than 6.1 ft, or prefer a little extra space, simply spec in flares, and we will automatically provide the deeper Bed Nooks to match.

  • What makes it special? Our Foundation build system is fully modular. This means you can adjust the height, add bunks, cots, or other accessories, and create a layout that suits your space and needs.

    Go for a queen bed mounted sideways, or stretch out in a king sized setup with a north-south configuration. It’s your choice.

    And with hundreds of colour and finish options you can really make your van feel like home.

From concept to creation, every kit is designed, engineered and manufactured in the mountains of British Columbia by our dedicated team of engineers.

FAQs

  • Most van builds are…let’s say, a process.

    Often taking over a year to complete with countless hours of measuring, test fitting, re-cutting, and many many trips to the hardware store. If you’re looking to take the trial and error out of the process and build yourself a professional quality van, our foundation build system might be just what you’re looking for.

    Somewhere between a self build and a professional van conversion this flat-pack kit enables anyone to build a van with just some simple had tools.

    If you’re not a confident DIYer we’d definitely recommend hitting up local van shops for some of the more complicated jobs (think fan install or window instillation). Or talking to us about our build system install service. But you’d be surprised how accessible this kit makes building your own van at home.

  • Our kits are designed for the Ford Transit 148. Our team of experienced engineers have designed these kits using 3D data from Ford themselves, to create a product that is exact every time. Tolerances are within a fraction of a mm, but with enough forgiveness in the fit to guarantee a clean result.

  • We use premium materials for our builds as we want them to be durable while still beautiful. We exclusively use marine grade baltic birch plywood. Cabinet faces we use laminates, typically formica. The walls are upholstered with a durable, water and UV resistant material.

  • The foundation build starts at 24,300 CAD (16,820 USD) for a flat packed kit shipped to you at home.

    From here we can make additional upgrades including luxury materials, advanced lighting options and various additions such as bike trays, furniture options and bunk beds.

    We also have a pricing structure in place for in house installs.

  • We’re glad you asked! When you get in contact with us we review the features of the foundation system with you, you will then receive a material sample pack to choose your fabric colours.

    If you are wanting a little bit more guidance, reach out to us today. We’d be happy to discuss all the options for creating a van that’s exactly what you need.

    We’ll then get to work on producing your build system. Each one is custom made at our workshop in Pemberton, BC and you can expect manufacture to take around 2-6 weeks.

    We have several options for you receiving your completed kit. We encourage you to come and pick up your kit in person from our workshop in Pemberton, BC. That way we can give you a run over how to install your kit and answer any questions you may have in person. If in person pick-up does not work for you, talk to us about our shipping options.

  • The foundation build system has been designed to be installed at home with only a few simple hand tools. The kit will arrive in a flat packed format, with everything you need to complete to build included. When you purchase with us we provide you with detailed instructions on every step of the install process. We also provide video install guides for you to follow along at home.

    If you ever get stuck or just need some guidance, we are available via phone, email or video chat to guide you through the process.

  • The foundation build system provides a base, with everything you need to get you out and traveling in your van. It provides you with a van build that is ready to go, but can also be added to immediately or further down the road. This is where our modular system really sets us apart.

    With most van builds, once something is installed, it’s really tricky to modify it. But with our modular builds, when your needs change, your van can too. Whether you choose to continue your van build journey with us, with our ranges of kitchen units, storage compartments and accessories or design your own additions, the foundation build system is the perfect starting point.
